Short-term Psychological Interventions – North (formerly ATAPS)
Short-term Psychological Interventions (STPI) is for 12 – 25 year olds who:
- Have a diagnosable mild, moderate, or in some cases severe, mental illness; and / or
- Have attempted, or are at risk, of self-harm or suicide where access to another service is not appropriate
Evidence based short-term psychological interventions provided by a Mental Health Clinician in collaboration with the young person’s GP. Six sessions are available to the young person initially, with another six available with the GP and Mental Health Clinician reviewing as needed.
Community Based Short-term Psychological Interventions is provided at no cost.
Referrals are made by the young person’s GP with a Mental Health Care Plan.
Target groups include:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) young people
- Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) young people
- Young women at risk of perinatal depression
- Young carers with a diagnosis of a mental illness
- People who are less likely to be able to pay fees for other psychological services
- Those unable to access other funded and private psychological services (rural and remote locations)
Office appointments are available at headspace Launceston with clinical outreach appointments available in George Town, Scottsdale and East Coast. Services are also available via Skype or phone.
