Migrant Resource Centre (Northern Tasmania) Inc.

Multicultural Playgroup

MRCN offers a weekly playgroup with family focused activities to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families and the local community. A primary aim of the playgroup is to engage CALD families with children aged 0 – 5 years and to provide a range of supports for parents and carers.

The playgroup actively welcomes all families. The program has been operating since 2007 and is funded by the Communities for Children Initiative. The Playgroup has been well attended with over 60 families from Nepal, Eritrea, China, Bhutan, Sudan, Burma and Afghanistan.
The playgroup facilitator assists with referrals to other support services including St Giles, Early Childhood Intervention Service, Child Health and other local playgroups as well as providing linkages to the local school community.

In addition to the play sessions at Haig Community Space, the playgroup takes part in a range of excursions to local Launceston attractions and activities including the library, aquatic centre, Museum, Tasmania Zoo and other regional Tasmanian child friendly attractions.
