Children and Young Persons Program (CHYPP) - North
The Children and Young Persons’ Program (CHYPP) work with children and young people affected by family violence (aka as domestic violence). To be eligible for a service the parent of children and young people must have been in a family violence incident attended by Tasmania Police and have an associated Family Violence Incident number. CHYPP also work with the non-offending parent and carers of children affected by family violence.
CHYPP Counsellors provide a range of services and supports to address the impacts of family violence, through child/caregiver sessions, one on one counselling, group programs, support for care givers for parenting after violence, and the provision of psychological services.
CHYPP is a statewide service with offices in Hobart, Launceston, Burnie and Devonport and can provide some limited outreach as well.

CHYPP use a number of techniques and skills in engaging children to express and resolve their feelings about family violence: some of these are: play therapy, writing activities, games, art and drawing, books, sand play and group work.

Is a referral required?
Children and young people affected by family violence can be referred to the Family Violence Counselling and Support Service by Safe and Home service providers. Most children and young people will be referred via the Police, the Court Support and Liaison Service, other health professionals, school personnel and the non-offending care-giver. Referrals also come for collegaues for the Adult Program of FVCSS.
