Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services - North West

CAMHS NW is a multidisciplinary team which works with young people from birth - 18 years living in the North West Tasmania Region, who have a severe and complex mental illness or disorder in the acute phase of their illness.

CAMHS NW provide assessment, treatment, stabilisation, planning and referral to services.

Therapy or case management will generally, for high prevalence disorders such as depression or anxiety, be the domain of other services, such as private psychology services.

CAMHS will continue to manage complex mental health problems which require a multi-disciplinary approach, such as eating disorders and psychosis.

All referrals go through the Mental Health Helpline. Phone: 1800 332 388 Fax: 03 6236 5788.

Referrals sent directly to CAMHS, are sent on to Mental Health Helpline to be triaged.

To access the service, clients


Must live in Burnie City; Central Coast; Circular Head; Devonport City; Kentish; King Island; Latrobe; Waratah/Wynyard; West Coast
Child 18 years or younger on the North West Coast / West Coast with serious and complex mental health concerns or identified as pregnant with mental health concerns and attending RHH for delivery.

Is a referral required?

General Practitioner, Paediatrician, social worker, guidance officer or child and family services, THS staff.

How do clients access the service?

Client responsible for transportation to service
Home visits can be provided
